I have a long history of birthdays that suck and to counter the crappiness I make it a rule to every year buy myself something special. Something big. Something no one else would think to get me. This year is no exception.

I used to have 2 tv's but then the older - and bigger - of the two decided it'd had enough and gave out. So I moved the smaller one from the room where I sit now (eloquently called 'the family room' though it's really the garage conversion) to the front room. After almost 4 months of being resigned to no tv I happened to be strolling through the tv department at Sears (where the REAL men shop) not much paying attention when I saw a TV with the clearest, sharpest picture I'd ever seen. So, a few minutes later I was the proud owner of a new Sony Wega. Man that things got one hell of a picture on it.

Unfortunately the spot where the old tv had been in the 'family room' is now taken by a fish tank and the spot on my desk is too small so I relinquished and took back the 20" from the front room. Good enough. I can watch dvd's and play my PS2 again and tomorrow I'm pulling cable and plugging in the second DISH receiver so I'll have a full hookup. I'm not much disappointed about not putting the new tv in here though. I'll still be able to watch it at meal times and when Iron Chef America comes on.

So far tonight I've been able to watch Kingdom of Heaven, one of my favorite movies of recent release.
